The World Kindness Movement (WKM) is a global initiative dedicated to promoting kindness, compassion, and positive action across communities worldwide. Founded in 1997, the movement brings together organizations and individuals committed to making the world a kinder, more inclusive, and compassionate place. Its goal is to inspire people to practice kindness daily, support one another, and create meaningful social change.
One of WKM’s most recognized initiatives is World Kindness Day, celebrated annually on Friday, November 13. Established in 1998, World Kindness Day highlights the importance of kindness in all aspects of life, from schools and workplaces to communities and international relations. The day encourages individuals and organizations to perform acts of kindness, raise awareness about the impact of compassion, and foster connections that transcend differences.
Since its inception, the World Kindness Movement has grown into a global network of countries, communities, and partners, working together to build a culture of empathy, understanding, and cooperation. World Kindness Day serves as a reminder of the power of small, positive actions to create lasting change and inspire a ripple effect of kindness around the world.
General Secretary of the World Kindness Movement- Dr. Tristaca McCray
We are honored that NERDS RULE INC. founder, Dr. Tristaca McCray, serves as General Secretary of the World Kindness Movement (WKM), currently in her second term through December 2026. She is the first African American woman to hold this leadership position in the Movement’s 30-year history, exemplifying a deep commitment to kindness, inclusion, and global collaboration.
Under Dr. McCray’s leadership, WKM’s vision has expanded through the Kinder City Project, empowering schools and community leaders to nominate their city as a Kinder City, communities dedicated to unity, wellbeing, and compassionate leadership. Building on WKM’s World Kindness City concept, she successfully guided Sicily, Italy, to become an officially recognized Kinder City, setting the stage for more cities to join in 2025 and beyond.
NERDS RULE INC. has also introduced a suite of programs that extend WKM’s mission to individuals and organizations:
Kinder Ambassadors – youth and adult leaders trained to promote kindness in schools, neighborhoods, and global communities.
Kinder Organizations – nonprofits, schools, churches, and community groups recognized for fostering inclusive, compassionate, and service-driven initiatives.
Kinder Businesses – enterprises awarded membership with WKM for demonstrating ethical practices, social responsibility, and commitment to community impact.
These programs provide participants with training, mentorship, and recognition while creating a global network of kindness leaders. By connecting cities, organizations, businesses, and individuals to WKM membership, Dr. McCray ensures that kindness becomes a measurable, actionable, and celebrated force worldwide.
This initiative aligns with global objectives of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, showcasing the transformative power of kindness as a driver of community wellbeing, leadership development, and sustainable impact.
